American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) – A hardy, native North American fruit tree known for its sweet, flavorful orange fruit and excellent adaptability to Southern growing conditions. Produces small to medium-sized persimmons with rich, honey-like flesh that becomes exceptionally sweet and soft when fully ripe. Excellent for fresh eating, baking, puddings, jams, and homemade preserves. Features attractive dark green foliage that turns beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red in fall, followed by bright orange fruit that ripens in late fall. Vigorous, long-lived tree that tolerates a variety of soil conditions and is more cold-hardy than many Asian persimmon varieties. Prefers full sun and well-draining soil. Grows approximately 30–50 feet tall and wide.
