Dunstan Chestnut (Castanea dentata × Castanea mollissima) – A popular hybrid chestnut variety known for its large, sweet, flavorful nuts and excellent disease resistance. Produces abundant crops of glossy brown chestnuts with sweet, creamy flesh, perfect for roasting, baking, cooking, and fresh eating. Features attractive, elongated green leaves and produces fragrant flowers in late spring to early summer, followed by spiny burrs containing the chestnuts that ripen in fall. Vigorous, fast-growing tree that adapts well to a variety of soil conditions. Prefers full sun and well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Can grow approximately 40–60 feet tall and wide at maturity. Requires cross-pollination with another compatible chestnut tree for reliable nut production.
